| VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS Assign as Needed Volunteer will provide assistance in various areas as determined by the Volunteer Coordinator. This Volunteer position often helps with last minute tasks identified by the event staff and Key Volunteers. They will fill specific Volunteer positions for 'No Show' Volunteers who were assigned prior to the event. Concessions Concessions Volunteers report to the Lead Concession Tech, and perform various duties within the concessions area. Cleaning Crew Cleaning Crew Volunteers report to Volunteer Coordinator, keep the facility clean and "picked-up" through-out the day, replace trash bags, paper towels, tissue paper, when necessary, etc. Crowd control Crowd Control Volunteers will facilitate smooth pedestrian traffic flow throughout the facility, monitor the audience, and keep walkways and aisles clear and the crowd flowing. Crowd Control Volunteers also prevent unauthorized persons from entering the Competition Field Area. Field Assembly Field Assembly Volunteers assist with the assembly of the playing field perimeters, tiles and pre-assembled game elements. ***This will take place Friday night, February 12, 2010, after the basketball game (approximately 9:30 PM)*** Field Dis-Assembly Field Dis-Assembly Volunteers assist with the tear-down of playing field perimeters, tiles and pre-assembled game elements. Field Dis-Assembly begins with practice fields, while Alliance Selections are taking place on the Competition Area. Field Reset Field Reset Volunteers set up the field according to the game specifications at the beginning of every match. They play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. Field Tech Advisor This Key Position requires pre-event training and Certification through FTC Headquarters. The Field Tech Advisor is responsible for the quality of Field Construction, the flow of activity on the Competition Fields and the Technology used for match play and scoring. Reporting directly to the Field Tech Advisor are the Queuers, Field Reset Volunteers, and the Field Management System Operators. At the event, the Field Tech Advisor works closely with the Head Referee to determine if a match should be replayed. The Field Tech Advisor has the opportunity to demonstrate and see great examples of Gracious Professionalism. ***This position has been filled, however Field Tech Assistants & Field Control System Volunteers are still needed Game Announcer The Game Announcer works with the Master of Ceremonies to energize the teams and spectators, generate and maintain interest, enthusiasm, and excitement throughout the matches. Announces play-by-play commentary for each match. Plays a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play, and maintaining the pace of the event. This Key Volunteer position significantly impacts the success of the event. There is training available for this position. Head Referee This Key position requires pre-event training and Certification through FTC Headquarters. The Head Referee is responsible for training, directing, and supervising all Referees. The Head Referee oversees scoring processes and procedures and has final authority for decisions regarding team scores. The Head Referee works with the Field Technical Advisor to determine if a match should be replayed. The Head Referee plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. ***This position has been filled. Judge Advisor This Key position requires pre-event training and Certification through FTC Headquarters. The Judge Advisor should have prior FTC or FIRST judging experience. The Judge Advisor is responsible for helping to recruit other Judges. The Judge Advisor works with the Event Manager to develop a judging schedule assigning Judges into pairs, and assigning teams and time slots to each pair of Judges. The Judge Advisor is a facilitator of the judging and deliberation processes, and should feel comfortable with helping judges to come to consensus. ***This position has been filled. Judges This position requires pre-event training provided via a teleconference. Judges are responsible for selecting team award recipients through interaction with teams and review of a team's Engineering Notebook. Judges serve as role models for the competitors. Judges will receive a Judges Handbook from the Judge Advisor or Volunteer Coordinator prior to attending the event, and are required to read it prior to the event. Judges are not referees, and are not required to understand the intricacies of scoring or ruling on the game. Judge Assistants The Judge Assistant is responsible for assisting the Judge Advisor throughout the event, providing computer support (word processing), and performing other duties as assigned. The Judge Assistant is not a Judge, does not interview teams or participate in Awards recipient selection process. The Judge Assistant is responsible for setting up the Judges' room on the evening before or morning of the event, and breaking it down after the Judges have reached their decisions. Lead Robot Inspector The Lead Robot Inspector is a Key Volunteer and must participate in Inspector Training Calls, hosted by FIRST and presented by experienced Lead Inspectors. The Lead Robot Inspector will oversee and perform mandatory robot inspections according to the guidelines provided in the Robot Inspector Handbook. The Lead Robot Inspector may participate in the recruitment of Robot Inspectors, and is responsible for training, supervising and directing the Robot Inspectors and for making final decisions regarding inspection decision disputes. The Lead Robot Inspector can set the tone for the Inspection Process, and can provide teams with first hand examples of Gracious Professionalism. Lead Team Queuer The Lead Team Queuer is responsible for robot and team traffic between the Pit and the Competition Fields. This Volunteer trains Team Queuing Volunteers to stage and position teams in preparation for the start of the matches. This position plays a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. The Lead Team Queuer reports to the Field Tech Advisor. Master of Ceremonies This Key Volunteer is the individual primarily responsible for setting the tone of the competition. He/She creates and sustains an exciting and fun atmosphere throughout the event, is the most visible presence at the event; embodies the spirit of FIRST and is the consummate FIRST ambassador. Pit Administration Supervisor The Pit Administration Supervisor is responsible for setting up the pit area, training the Volunteers and managing all activities in the Pit including coordination of Pit Administration Table, team interface, and collaborating with Emergency Medical Technicians. Pit Administration Support These individuals assist the Pit Administration Supervisor and will provide direction, assistance, information and support to teams in the Pit area. Referee The position requires pre-event training provided via a teleconference hosted by FTC staff and presented by experienced FTC Referees. A Game Manual and Referee Handbook are also provided. Referees observe team matches, identify rule violations and "call" them. Using a referee score sheet, they calculate the official score of the matches and participate in deliberations regarding contested calls. Referees report directly to the Head Referee. They play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. Registration / Information Individuals assigned to the registration / information table will assist participants with the registration process, collect consent forms, and distribute registration packets. Registration volunteers may transition to information volunteers after the registration process has been completed. The information table will have tournament programs available for spectators. This area is also used as a check-in table for VIPs and the media. These volunteers are the official greeters and should be able to answer questions about the site, schedule of the day, and FTC. Robot Inspector The position requires pre-event training which is done via a teleconference. Robot inspectors will also receive a copy of the Game Manual and a Robot Inspectors Guide. Robot Inspectors preform mandatory robot inspections to ensure compliance with robot construction rules. They determine inspection outcome decisions (pass/fail). Robot inspectors may perform random inspections. They work under the direction of the Lead Robot Inspector. Scorekeeper The Scorekeeper operates the Scoring System, including the match time displays. The Scorekeeper generates the match schedules (after all teams have checked in on the morning of the event), inputs scores into the scoring system from the Head Referee, prints reports as needed and sends final results to FIRST. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. FTC Headquarters will provide a training done via a webinar and a Scorekeeper Handbook. Team Queuer Team Queuing Volunteers are responsible for managing team traffic to and from the playing field. Team Queuers will stage and position teams in preparation for the start of matches. They play a critical role in ensuring smooth flow of match play and maintaining the pace of the event. The Lead Queuer will provide training. |
